Mingo Monday

I'm going to stray a bit. Today's flamingo isn't actually a part of my collection.

Last week I was talking to Brandi and we were talking about school. Brandi is taking Algebra. Brandi and I hate Algebra. Algebra is icky. All math in my book is icky. I can use a calculator to add 2 + 2 and get five. It's true, ask Jenn.

Jenn on the other hand is a math freak. You say algebra, she rattles off the quadratic equation. Freak. She has often pulled out her old textbooks and done math problems FOR FUN!!! She is so weird. People think I am weird, but really, doing math for fun?? Something is seriously wrong with her.

After I left work that day Jenn and I headed over to Ye Ole Local Community College's bookstore to get our books for the new semester. I saw a book that would almost make Algebra worth it (almost):

But, I don't think flamingos can do math.

I remember having a plaque that said "I"m looking forward to the day when we can have math without numbers." An ex-boyfriend attached a sticky note to it.
"We do. It's called algebra."

Sigh.

Well, if you HAVE to do algebra at least you get a little good with it.

I agree - math without numbers is evil.

I don't play cribbage anymore because it's too embarassing to do the counting on my fingers.

Ha ha!! Love the book! Jenn is a freak, but don't upset her, I may need help with my homework! I'm glad to see i'm not the only one who thinks adding letters to numbers is a form of torture and should be outlawed.

I absolutely despise math, which is why I am an English teacher. One of my biggest concerns before I started teaching was how I would average/calculate grades. Well, I have this thing called an EZ-Grader, which basically does it for me. I couldn't find it today and almost quit.

If I could do math, I wouldn't be a therapist, I'd be some geeky physicist person who had lots of money but no fun.
Guess it's good I can't do math.

I know I've said this like a million times lately, but you are so funny Heidi!! I am officially addicted to this web-site and get really sad when you don't have a posting. Is that sad of me???

Hello.
I left a comment about my cousin Toby Cisneros on your Jan 5th Mingo blog post. I promise this will be my last bothersome comment, but I did want to let you know he is trying to find your email to contact you... By the way, what a cool idea for collecting.

Hey I'm with you. I never understood the love of math, to each his own I guess right? Flamingos aren't my thing so I can't quite relate. However, if there was an algebra book with a picture of a cupcake on it... then I think I could totally understand your happiness in seeing this book. ha ha
